Interview with Nellie Rosso Walters
Nellie Walters is interviewed on Christmas Day, 1986 at the age of 98, by her grandson Charles L. Walters, Jr. She discusses her family origins in Norway; migration to Chicago and South Dakota; losing several family members to the plagues and pandemics of the early 1900s where they were quarantined to an outdoor shed upon infection; and being one of the first women allowed to vote in the 1920 Presidential Election. Nellie recalls several of her family members, but says her husband Roy (whom we believe had a real name: Charles) “did not amount to much”.
